Statement of Speaker-designee Kirk Cox on recount in House District 40
Virginia House of Delegates Speaker-designee Kirk Cox released the following statement Thursday, following the recount confirming that Caucus Chairman Tim Hugo was re-elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. Hugo’s margin changed by just seven votes from the tally on Election Day. Last week, Mark Dudenhefer won a recount in the race for a Stafford County Board of Supervisors seat after the margin changed by just one vote.
For more than a month now, Caucus Chairman Tim Hugo has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming General Assembly Session. Wednesday’s recount ensured that every lawful vote was counted, and confirmed what we have known since November. I want to thank the many volunteers from Fairfax and Prince William counties and the recount court who helped today’s process go smoothly. Virginia’s fair and impartial election law has delivered a result of which voters can be confident.
