Karen A. Keys-Gamarra, the Democrat Party endorsed candidate for the open At Large School Board seat in Fairfax County, easily won the August 29 special election necessitated by the resignation of Republican Jeanette Hough, who moved away from the area earlier in the summer.
Ms. Keys-Gamarra received 41,519 votes compared to 21,389 for Chris Grisafe, the School Board candidate endorsed by the Republican Party. Two other candidates, Sandra Allen and Michael Owens, received a negligible number of votes. A mere 10.4% of the 677,477 active registered voters in the county turned out to vote in the special election.
