As predicted here, Republican grassroots activist Shak Hill announced on his Facebook page Tuesday that he will seek the Republican nomination for Congressman from Virginia’s 10th District. Mr. Hill, a former U.S. Air Force pilot who narrowly lost to Ed Gillespie in the 2014 Republican nomination race for the U.S. Senate, will be challenging sitting Republican Congresswoman Barbara Comstock in 10th District’s 2018 elections.
A video of Mr. Hill’s announcement is available here.
Mr. Hill issued the following full text of his announcement in a newsletter to his supporters:
Thank you for joining us for this important announcement.
On the issues that matter most, Washington is failing us. Establishment politicians are more concerned about power for themselves, than liberty for the people. Washington continues to break promises. Promises made, yet broken, especially by Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, who has voted on key issues more like a Democrat than a Republican.
Let me give you just one example. If we strip out the politics of the issue, we all see the disaster of Obamacare. Yet we were told we could keep our doctor and our plan. My family plan was cancelled and we lost our doctor. Our premiums, like yours, are going up, and our choices are going down. And my wife Robin has a pre-existing condition. She is a cancer survivor, and yet we were still cancelled.
If the truth of Obamacare was known when it was originally voted on, no one would have voted for it. New taxes, failing exchanges, less options. Now we know the truth. Barbara promised to repeal and replace Obamacare, but she lied to us and voted to keep it.
And this is just one example.
Basic principles of accountability demand a change. She has let all of us down. And it is time to repeal and replace Barbara.
When she first ran for office, she sold us that she was a conservative and I voted for Barbara expecting to see her promises put into action. However, like many of you, I will not vote for her again. She has failed to represent us the way she promised she would. In the coming months, I will lay out the case why I should be your representative for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.
We are a party of accountability and based on her voting record, accountability requires me to run.
The people elected Donald Trump as our President, and he is trying to drain the swamp and fix Washington. I agree with the president on his conservative initiatives. Barbara has been a major obstacle, and quite frankly, an embarrassing distraction.
I will help move the President’s agenda forward.
I love Virginia, her rich heritage of those who came before us fighting for individual liberty and the freedom to use our God given talents. That is why I joined the United States Air Force, where I was pleased to have graduated from the Air Force Academy. I served in Iraq and fought as a combat pilot in the Gulf War, and on missions all over the world.
Our family also has a rich heritage of serving this country as two of my sons, who are both enlisted in the Army, represent the fourth generation of my family to wear our country’s uniform defending our way of life.
Many of you are deeply concerned about the direction of the nation, and the way the corrupt Washington swamp invades our everyday lives. Something must be done, and I want to do my part.
It’s time we send someone to Washington who is going to help support President Trump’s conservative agenda, keep campaign promises, and drain the swamp.
That is why today, I announce I am officially running for U.S. Congress in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. We were successful in 2016, and I am asking for your vote and support so we can be successful in 2018. God bless, and let’s change DC.
I look forward to touring the 10th District and talking with you about my message to change Washington D.C. over the course of the next several months.
