I am reflecting on someone once telling me that when we say “no” to something, it feels better if we think about what we are actually saying “yes” to … so, if I say “no” to a certain food because my body feels better without it, instead of having the pang of desire for that food and having to look at the process of not eating it as a struggle around willpower, it makes it easier if I frame it as what I am saying yes to … feeling better, losing weight, treating my body well, being aware … always, always, when we resist, the problem persists, but when we view things from the positive things flow and it is much easier …
Another way the yes is important is in the business I am in … I am constantly creating and hoping for my work to be accepted … looking for more opportunities to be heard and seen … and artists hear a lot of “no’s” … so I have programmed myself to focus on the “yesses” I hear … and to look at the “no’s” as a necessary process of putting oneself out there, but not something to dwell on … to enjoy the “yesses” and know that just around the corner from every “no” is another “yes” waiting to be discovered … and to relish in those moments of success and validation, and savor them … make the yes the focus, rather than feel daunted or discouraged by the “no’s” … this is not always easy, but it’s a good goal, especially when one is attempting to make a living through what he creates and how he performs …
It’s what we are striving for and towards, not what we are resisting or going against … positive energy begets positive energy!
