When I began performing, I used to always notice the one face in the crowd that was seemingly not happy or looked disinterested.
I was put off by what I perceived as a lack of connection to someone in the audience, and it affected my energy.
I have since learned that energy begets like energy—or, more simply put, the energy you expend outward is matched with that same energy back towards you. So, now I make an effort to focus on the smiles, and the people who seem to be enjoying themselves while I am playing and singing. In this way, almost like how we breathe in the oxygen that the trees are putting out, which then in turn, goes back into the atmosphere and helps the trees grow, I find that my energy level is much higher and more positive overall during my shows.
And conversely, when I do happen upon a face in the crowd that seems less than enthusiastic, I try at least once or twice to give them a nod and a smile, and in most cases, they return that with their own positive energy, which, again, lifts me up even higher.
It’s a fact that we can take what is given to us on its face, or we can try and affect it positively by breathing our own happy and powerful energy into that something, be it an audience, or a situation at work, or what have you. We can actually change the outcome and the reality of things by just breathing out good, wholesome, healthy, and positive energy, which we will then receive back in abundance.
Energy begets like energy—so think about the kind of energy you want coming back to you, and simply put that out there first. You will be happily surprised at how much good feeling you will begin to experience!
