Langley HS Grad Honored in Richmond by Sons of the American Revolution
Robert Maloney of BSA Troop 673, Great Falls, was honored Saturday, February 11th as 2016 Virginia Eagle Scout of the Year, at a ceremony in Richmond.
The Virginia chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution selected the Fairfax County native from among Eagle Scouts in the Commonwealth, based on evaluation of merit and an essay competition. Maloney’s essay, “Victory or Death,” concerned James Monroe and the Battle of Trenton. He was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Maloney, currently a freshman at Christopher Newport University in its Presidential Leadership Program, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in June 2015. His achievements included successful completion of 50 merit badges, and construction of safety signs to prevent drowning in the Potomac at River Bend Park. He graduated from Langley High School in 2016.
Robert initially applied for award with the Fairfax Resolves Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, which then sponsored him in the state competition.
