Presidential Politics: I’m voting against crony corruption
This past weekend, I joined Representative Rob Wittman and Senator Bryce Reeves—and many other friends—in Fredericksurg to welcome our Republican nominee to the 7th District. One thing is for sure, Trump has inspired some incredible enthusiasm all over the country. Fredericksburg included.
This week we learned that the FBI’s year-long investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email server uncovered 15,000 more documents from her time as Secretary of State that were not previously disclosed by her attorneys. It is getting harder and harder for Clinton to sell the idea that her use of a private email server didn’t jeopardize our national security. Whether her actions were gross incompetency or gross deceptions—they should not be rewarded with our country’s highest elected office.
Even so, the elite media continues to shill for Hillary, and ignore her long list of scandals dating back to the Nixon years. That has led to growing frustration with our major news outlets, as evidenced by the crowd at the Trump rally chanting “do your job” and “tell the truth” to reporters from CNN covering the event.
Donald Trump represents a huge threat to the globalists backing Hillary, the big foreign donors to the bogus charity op “Clinton Foundation,” who feign to be champions of the poor and middle class while rigging the system in favor of their cronies. Clinton & Company represents more of the same, a ramping up of the current system that is promising a utopia but will bring down the collective standard of living to the lowest common denominator—while diverting assets to benefit a few at the top.
If we want a better future for all Americans, we need to reject the status quo of out-of-control spending, open borders, and special interests rigging the game in their favor. This is a message that resonates with Americans across the board. If Trump can continue to deliver that message in a personal and powerful way, we will win in November, and start to see a nation that is united and prosperous once again. This, however, is certain: prosperity will not happen with a reckless liberal in the White House who refuses to address the $19 trillion in debt and $100 trllion in unfunded labilities, and who will continue to put special interests above the interests of the American people.
While even Republicans are split on their political choices, the one thing you can be sure of is that I will always vote on principle, following the Republican creed and the core pillars that I lay out in my book.
Obama’s plans to surrender U.S. internet oversight
The Obama administration is moving forward with plans to surrender U.S. oversight of the internet to a multi-stakeholder body as of October 1st. The International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a California-based nonprofit, already manages the functions that it would after the transition through a consensus-based, multi-stakeholder model. At the moment, however, the U.S. currently exercises a check on ICANN’s decisions.
It remains an open question as to how transparent and accountable ICANN will be after U.S. surrenders stewardship of the Web, especially considering the private organization will have a financial monopoly on a resource critical to nations and individuals around the globe.
Constituents are understandably concerned about the potential for censorship or other nefarious actions when the internet is no longer under U.S. control. We need to ensure the internet remains a medium for free speech, the flow of ideas, and global commerce. That is why, when Congress returns, I will be signing on as a cosponsor to the Protecting Internet Freedom Act to stop President Obama from handing over the internet to ICANN, and allowing over 160 foreign governments to have increased influence over the management and operation of the Web. Too many questions are unanswered. Better to proceed with caution than to make a mistake in haste.
Syrian Refugees placed in Virginia 7th CD
Over a hundred Syrian refugees have been resettled in Virginia in 2016 as the federal government works to meet Obama’s goal of admitting 10,000 refugees by September. This includes refugees that have been placed in #VA07, in Powhatan. An important point here is that the refugees are being randomly placed far, far away from Democrat elites, without the knowledge or planning of Congress—or even local officials.
I want to reiterate that point to be clear. Obama is pushing to resettle these refugees over widespread opposition from the American people—including many of our nation’s governors—who are concerned that the rapid influx of refugees have not been thoroughly vetted. Even Obama’s own FBI Director James Comey has stated that the U.S. government does not have the resources and lacks the necessary information to sufficiently vet Syrian refugees. Yet, once again, our President acts unilaterally to advance an agenda that is not the agenda of the American people.
The Obama administration argues that it’s unreasonable to demand absolute guarantees that Syrian refugees pose extra risk, and that they have been carefully vetted despite the emergency push to resettle them quickly. We just need to look to Europe to see the tragic results of importing thousands of unvetted refugees.
Evidence is building that our immigration system is being used to camouflage movements representing the most dangerous threats to American security. We now know that ISIS not only wants to hit us here in our homeland but has plans to do so—and is already implementing those plans.
I often get feedback, questions to the effect of: “Dave why don’t you do something about this?” My response is that I am doing everything that I can. I have introduced four security-related bills in the House, and I have communicated the truth on these issues for two years. I have kept my word and now it is time for our leadership to generate the groundswell that is necessary to put hard policy into place to keep our homeland safe.
After-the-fact, these commonsense policies will be too late and everyone will be demanding answers as to why Congress failed to act. “The risks to our homeland were obvious—but nothing was done!” After-the-fact, Congress will come together to reassure the American people that when it comes to ensuring the safety of our citizens they are “on it.” After-the-fact, Congress will finally listen to what the American people are rightfully demanding. My question to leadership is: Why don’t we just do that now?
The Obamacare Collapse
Aetna recently announced that it is pulling out of 11 of 15 Obamacare exchanges, which means that in many networks there will be only one “option” for consumers when it comes to choosing a health insurer.
There’s been a lot of speculation about Aetna’s motives on leaving the exchanges, but this is what happens when the free market doesn’t work—due to crony capitalism run amok or government regulation run amok.
If you want to know why our economy is growing at only 1%, this scenario is one of the reasons. There is no rationality involved when it comes to Obamacare. It is not based on rational economics, but transactional, with crony elites making inside deals while the average consumer gets hit hard with increasing health care premiums, higher deductibles, and constantly shifting doctor-patient relationships. Our small businesses are having to lay off valued employees because they can no longer afford to keep them. These are the fruits of the age we live in.
Letting the free market work, instead of imposing costly burdens and legislation, is the only sure way to ensure that we continue to have the best healthcare system in the world while keeping costs from skyrocketing. I offered legislation with Senator Flake that aims to increase the accessibility and affordability of healthcare options. You can read more about it here.
Bottom line, if you want more “government Grubers” (as in Harvard elitist Jonathan Gruber) who by all accounts lied and deceived the American people in the construction and implementation and messaging on Obamacare as it was the only way to get it through, vote for the party that wants to expand government interference in your life. If you want 1/7th of your economy built and premised on a lie—vote Hillary.
