Muslims believe they are working for God, with a reward in heaven. The militant Muslims cannot be defeated by proposing that they work for merely earthly rewards. Consider what they see when they look at the non-religious U.S. society: pre-marital sexual relations, homosexual behavior, government supported abortion, and pornography.
The Muslims see these as the intolerable workings of Satan. Because the U.S. condones such behavior, the U.S. must be the Great Satan. The militants want to crush the Great Satan by any actions deemed effective. If they are killed in the process, their reward will be in heaven, whether they are ISIS fighters or “Lone Wolves.”
A religion cannot be defeated militarily. Many regimes have tried. When the USSR collapsed, the religions that were hiding suddenly became visible.
The Muslim militants must be converted to a superior religion. They will never switch to a Satanic creed. Its rewards are death and extinction, if not hell. The reward is certainly not heaven.
The U.S. fight against ISIS and domestic terrorists is futile because the U.S. does not permit itself to consider religion in its policies. It misses the underlying motivation of religious people and offers an alternative lifestyle that is anathema to Islam, the religion of ISIS and many of the Lone Wolves.
